Baldhead Cabinets, for such a strong and durable cabinet, (18-gauge electro-galvanized material) are no heavier than standard press board garage cabinets. They can be transported very easily for easy installation. The cabinets do mount to the studs of your garage but can easily be removed to relocate. Easy enough to do yourself, or for a small upcharge, you can have Baldhead Cabinet Company or one of our Authorized Resellers, professionally install the cabinets for you.
Things to consider for a good design and smooth installation.
- Curb size...Is there a foundation curb that will be in the way of the cabinets? Measure the height and width and make sure it fits within the kick plate clearance. Also, check to see if the garage floor is sloped. Kick plate with adjustment legs is a minimum dimension of 4" and a maximum of 7" or purchase the 6" base for 6" min. to 10" max.
- Vents, pipes, and outlets...First check to see if any of these will interfere. If so, you have several options. (A) Move pipes or outlets to another wall. (B) You can space cabinets in between vents. (C) You can frame out wall to allow for pipes. (D) You can cut cabinet backs to allow for an outlet box.
- Garage flooring...If you are having the garage floor finished, you will need to have this finished and dry before you install these cabinets.
- Vehicle length... If mounting cabinets at the front of the garage, measure to see if your vehicle will fit after complete installation.
- Garage door rail height...If mounting cabinets at the side of garage, make sure upper cabinet doors will open below garage door rail. Measure from floor to bottom of rail. Cabinets will be 80" plus 4" to 7" for kick plate depending on the slope of the floor.
- Installation hints...Fasten kick plate base to lower cabinets first and then set upright. Next, fasten lower cabinets to each other and square and level each cabinet to the next. Check level of total unit once that set is together. Push unit up to wall (which might not be level and square, check level again) and fasten units to pre-located studs. Tall cabinets or upper cabinets can now be lined up and fastened to pre-located studs.
